The 3 Basic Types of Life Insurance

1. Temporary (Term)

“Term” life insurance is the simplest and cheapest type of life insurance because it does one thing: it provides a fixed amount of money to your spouse, children, or other beneficiaries to replace your income (which pays the mortgage and other bills)

8/10 American families live paycheck-to-paycheck with TWO incomes. Even with a dual income, a $1,000 emergency fund is still a big deal for most families. Losing an income earner during your working years can be catastrophic to a family’s financial security

2. Permanent (Whole)

Like the name suggests: this type of policy covers you for your whole life. You put protection in place and it stays there.

Each month when you pay your premium, a portion of that premium goes into a “cash value” account that grows during the life of the policy. You can borrow against the cash value if you choose; it’s like a permanent savings account, that also pays a death benefit when you die. Universal life and Final Expense policies are considered types of permanent policies as well.

3. Supplemental (AD&D)

These policies cover specific things like disability, accidental death, or critical illness that can cause lost income for your household. If your employer doesn’t offer disability insurance coverage, then you need a disability policy.

Social security for disability is only about $1,000 per month… That’s it.

In the first half of life of a person’s life, accidental death is the leading cause of death (car accidents, falls, unintentional overdose, drownings, etc.). Critical illness covers major illnesses like cancer, stroke or heart attack. If you become ill and can’t work: these policies pay you cash.

Our annuities will never lose money due to a market downturn, and allows our clients to participate in market gains. When the annuity period ends, it can even provide guaranteed lifetime income

I already have life insurance at work, isn't that enough?

How much coverage should I have?

We will help you with specifics, but here are some general guidelines:

Working Families – Each spouse should be insured to protect the mortgage and a few months or years of bills. A good guideline is 10-12 times your combined annual wages. But ANYTHING that fits your budget is better than zero coverage.

Retirees– If you don’t have well-funded retirement accounts and still have a mortgage, you should have enough coverage to pay off the mortgage in full, in part, or at least 6-12 months for the “critical period” after death. The surviving spouse will then have the gift of time to determine their next course of action.

What if I outlive my policy?

First off, that’s always something worth celebrating! It did what it was designed to do: protect your income for your family when you’re in the most expensive stage of your life – mortgage, kids, and other debts. And during the most risky years too!

But do you feel like you wasted your money? Well – there are policies that can give you even more money back at the end, all tax-free. You pay more per month during the policy, but if you outlive it, you’ll get it all back and more.

Can I get coverage without having to talk to you?

We get it… Technology has made interpersonal interaction so abnormal – but getting you and your family the right amount of protection for a price that fits your budget is very important to us. Our State licenses require us to make sure you actually need the coverage, and that we aren’t going to create a new financial stressor in your life.

But yes, we have to interact to some degree – it can be by phone, text, Zoom, or over coffee. Whatever you’re comfortable with!

Am I too old for coverage?

Unless you’re over age 85, then absolutely not! We have numerous carriers that offer coverage for seniors, with many of our carriers offering coverage options that fit within fixed budgets (like Social Security or SSDI)

I'm too sick/unhealthy to get coverage, should I even bother reaching out?

YES! Our initial consultation, which includes actual quotes, are 100% free with no obligation. You’re not wasting our time, and we specialize in helping people that most other companies would consider “not eligible” for coverage. I've heard of people getting life insurance for their kids & grandkids - is that really possible?

Not only is it possible, it’s the best thing you can do to teach them the importance of life insurance and set them up with a permanent policy that will never expire!

It may seem pretty strange for a child to have life insurance, but rates are always lower when we’re younger. And you are typically the healthiest when you’re younger, so it’s never a bad idea to consider locking in coverage at as early of an age as possible, in case they potentially develop any health issues.
